Über Inhaltsverzeichnis

This tool generates a contents page and inserts it into the document. Entries can be derived from an existing bookmark tree or entered by hand, and each line is linked to its target page so the page works on screen as well as in print.

Contents entries are assembled from the document you opened, on your own machine. The generated page is written into your local copy only.

Inhaltsverzeichnis verwenden

  1. Open a PDF. If it already has bookmarks, they are offered as the starting point for the contents.
  2. Edit the entry list — remove sections that do not belong on a contents page and correct any wording.
  3. Choose where the page is inserted and pick a style for the leader lines and page numbers.
  4. Generate and download. The new page is inserted and every entry links to its destination.

In der Produktion

A tender document assembled from four departments needs a front page that lists what is inside before a producer will read past it. Generating that page from the structure already in the file takes a minute, and beats maintaining a hand-typed list that goes stale the first time a section is added.

Häufige Fragen

Do the page numbers account for the contents page itself?
Yes. Inserting a page shifts everything after it, and the numbers printed on the contents are calculated after that shift, so they match what a reader actually turns to.
Can I build a contents page without bookmarks?
Yes. Entries can be typed directly with a target page for each. Deriving from bookmarks is a convenience when the structure already exists, not a requirement.
Where should the contents page go?
Directly after the title page in most documents. Placing it at the very front means it is what someone sees on a thumbnail or preview, which is rarely what you want representing the file.
