Connected Crew
Crew connections inside Contacts → Connected Crew
Connected Crew lives inside the Contacts page: open Contacts from the sidebar and switch to the 'Connected Crew' tab. The legacy /connected-crew route still works but redirects there. The tab has two sub-tabs: 'Connections' (requests, connections and what you share with each person) and 'Availability' (who is free when).
What Connected Crew Is
A mutual contact graph between Cine Power Planner accounts. Once two accounts are connected, each side decides what to share with the other: owned gear, prices, and availability.
- Send and receive connection requests.
- Manage active connections with per-connection share settings (gear, prices, rental business name, availability).
- See who is free, booked or unavailable on the Availability board.
- Connected crew can share their operator preferences, gear rules and camera setup with you; they appear read-only on your contact for them, and the rules and setup can be used in a project that person is on.
- Your contact card for a connected person picks up their profile photo (see Profile Sync below).
- Connections sync across your devices via cloud sync.
- Projects are shared separately, per project, from the project's Collaborators panel — being connected does not share a project.
Tips
- Connections are mutual — both sides must accept.
- Cloud sync must be enabled for connection requests to send or arrive.
Sending a Connection Request
Start a connection with another Cine Power Planner user.
- Sidebar → Contacts → switch to the 'Connected Crew' tab (the old
/connected-crewURL redirects here). - Click 'Connect' in the page header — the 'Send Connection Request' dialog opens.
- Type at least two characters of the person's name or email. Matches from your own contacts come first, then accounts found in the platform directory. The directory finds an account by three or more letters of its profile name, or by its full email address. It shows an account's email only when you typed that address in full, and an account that uses its email address as its name is found only that way.
- Click the matching person — the request sends right away (there's no message field). A contact marked 'Not a registered user' cannot be picked.
- The recipient gets a notification and an email, finds the request under 'Pending Requests' and can accept or decline.
Tips
- If you type a full email address that matches nobody, the dialog offers 'Invite {email}' — an email invitation to join Cine Power Planner. Connect once they have an account.
- A request you sent is listed under 'Sent Requests' and can be cancelled before it's accepted.
- A declined request is removed, so you can send a fresh one whenever you like.
Common Pitfalls
- Sending to the wrong email — double-check before clicking send.
- Trying to connect with someone who hasn't enabled cloud sync — requests won't arrive on their side.
- Expecting instant acceptance — the recipient has to open the app and act on the request.
Managing Existing Connections
Connections live in the 'Connections' sub-tab of Contacts → Connected Crew.
- Three lists: 'Pending Requests' (sent to you, with Accept / Decline), 'My Connections', and 'Sent Requests' (with Cancel).
- Each connection shows what they share with you ('Sharing gear' or 'Not sharing', 'Prices visible') and, under 'Your sharing:', what you share with them.
- Remove a connection if you no longer want them in your graph.
- Project access is configured separately from the connection itself — see the next section.
- Sidebar → Contacts → 'Connected Crew' tab → 'Connections'.
- Answer any 'Pending Requests' with Accept or Decline.
- Under 'My Connections', use the share icon ('Edit share settings') to change what you share with that person.
- Use the trash icon ('Remove Connection') and confirm to remove the connection.
Common Pitfalls
- Removing a connection when you only meant to stop sharing your gear — removal stops gear, price and availability sharing in both directions, deletes your share settings for that person, has no undo, and needs a new request to reverse. To stop sharing only, turn the switches off in the share settings.
- Letting pending requests accumulate — others may be waiting on your acceptance.
- Keeping stale connections — periodic pruning keeps the graph meaningful.
Profile Sync
Your contact card for a connected crew member takes their photo from their profile, and their name and email while those are still empty.
- Synced fields: the connected person's profile photo, plus their name and email when your card has none. A name or email you entered yourself is never overwritten, so renaming a contact sticks. Everything else on your card for them (phone, address, company, notes, certifications) stays local too.
- Sync runs in the background when both sides are online.
- If a connection is removed, the synced contact stays as a local contact — you don't lose the data.
Tips
- Keep your own profile current in Settings → Account → Profile so your crew always sees up-to-date info.
- A synced contact converted back to a local contact stops receiving profile updates from the other side — that's by design.
Connected Crew requires cloud sync. Without it, requests can't reach the other account.
