Glossary
Terms used in Cine Power Planner and in production
Definitions of app-specific terms and the production vocabulary they sit alongside. Skim or use the search bar at the top of the Help Panel.
A
- Archive
- Mark a completed project so it's hidden from the active dashboard. Data is preserved and the project can be restored.
- Aspect Ratio
- The ratio of width to height of an image (e.g. 16:9, 4:3, 2.39:1).
- Auto Gear
- Rule engine that adds or removes gear-list items automatically when triggers match (camera, crew, project properties).
- ATA Carnet
- International customs document for the temporary import of professional equipment. The dedicated ATA Carnet workflow produces the supporting documentation as a ZIP.
- AfA
- Absetzung für Abnutzung — the German tax-deductible depreciation of long-lived assets (above 800 €). In the Accounting feature, expenses booked to the AfA-Anlagevermögen category map to Anlage-EÜR Zeile Z29 instead of an immediate write-off.
- Anlage EÜR
- The supplementary tax form (Einnahmen-Überschuss-Rechnung, § 4 Abs. 3 EStG) that self-employed people in Germany attach to their income-tax return. Each expense category in the Accounting feature carries an
euerLinefield with the Zeile (Z23–Z49) the row maps to on the BMF form.
B
- Backup
- A copy of your data saved for recovery. JSON exports and auto-backups both qualify.
- Baseline
- A reference snapshot of a project at a specific version. Used as the anchor for change comparison.
- Bulk Operations
- Multi-select mode on the gear list that applies a single action (move, edit, delete) to many rows at once.
- Bewirtung (70%-Rule)
- Under § 4 Abs. 5 EStG Nr. 2 (German tax law), business meals (Bewirtungskosten) are only 70% deductible as an operating expense, while the full 19% input VAT can be reclaimed. The Accounting feature encodes this on the Bewirtung category with
deductibilityPct: 70.
C
- Camera Package
- A camera setup as a unit — body, sensor mode, recording format, primary lenses, and power defaults. Projects can have multiple (A Cam, B Cam, …) with independent configurations.
- Cloud Sync
- Opt-in sync that mirrors your local data to the self-hosted Supabase backend so it can be restored on another device or shared with collaborators.
- Codec
- The format used to encode video or audio (e.g. ProRes, H.264, BRAW).
- Contact
- A person stored for reuse — crew member or production company / renter.
- Crew
- The people working on a production (cinematographer, gaffer, sound, AC, etc.).
D
- Device Library
- Your personal catalog of equipment items. Items added to a project's gear list come from here.
- DIT
- Digital Imaging Technician — owns the digital media workflow on set.
- Dynamic Logic Block
- A conditional inside an Auto Gear rule that picks different gear based on device properties (e.g. 'if monitor < 7", use small battery').
- Document layout
- The PDF look of an accounting document — invoice, quote, order confirmation, delivery note or Mahnung — built in Accounting → Layout designer. A document type can have several named layouts; 'Use for documents' under 'Manage layouts' decides which one your documents are generated with.
- Dunning (Mahnwesen)
- Reminding customers of overdue invoices. Accounting → Dunning lists every overdue invoice with a status — Due now, Waiting, Last stage issued or Settled — and issues the next Mahnung. See Mahnung.
E
- E-Rechnung
- German term for an electronic invoice in a machine-readable format (typically ZUGFeRD / Factur-X / XRechnung). Mandatory for B2B in Germany since 2025. See ZUGFeRD.
- ERPAM
- A category-keyed CSV format some brokers accept for fleet-inventory submission. Cine Power Planner can export to it from the Insurance page. A gear set flagged for single-row insurance export collapses into one ERPAM row.
- EÜR
- Einnahmen-Überschuss-Rechnung — the German simple-bookkeeping tax-filing method for small self-employed businesses (§ 4 Abs. 3 EStG). See Anlage EÜR.
F
- Factory Reset
- Wipes all local app data and returns the app to its initial state. Destructive — back up first.
- Favorites
- Star-marked items in the Device Library. They appear at the top of category dropdowns.
- FPS / Framerate
- Frames per second — the capture rate of a clip (24, 25, 29.97, 50, 60, …).
- Factur-X
- The French/European hybrid invoice standard — a PDF/A-3 carrying an embedded XML payload conforming to EN 16931. Identical on the wire to German ZUGFeRD. The Sub-Rental flow exports AND imports Factur-X .xml payloads for B2B round-trips.
G
- Gaffer
- Head of the lighting department on a production.
- Gear Compatibility
- Automatic detection of incompatible combinations (lens mount, image circle, battery mount, video signal, power connector) with inline warning badges.
- GDPR
- General Data Protection Regulation — EU privacy law that governs how personal data is handled.
- Gear Set (Kit)
- A saved bundle of owned-gear items that travel together (camera-body + handle + viewfinder + cage + batteries). Renders as one row on a project gear list with components beneath; can be reordered by drag-and-drop within the set.
- GWG
- Geringwertiges Wirtschaftsgut — German tax category for low-value movable assets of up to 800 € net, deductible in the year of purchase. Mapped to Anlage-EÜR Zeile Z31 in the Accounting feature.
- Girocode
- A payment QR code (EPC QR code) printed on an invoice or a Mahnung. A banking app reads your account, the amount due and the reference from it. Switch it on under Settings → Accounting → Invoice settings; it needs an IBAN in your profile.
- Group (gear list)
- A named set of items in a project's gear list, for example 'A Cam unit'. A group can have items in several categories; in each category they are shown together under the group's name. Set it with 'Set group' in the bulk bar or in an item's edit dialog. Not the same as a Gear Set, which is a saved bundle of owned gear.
I
- Import
- Load data from external files into the app (CSV, JSON, gear-list backup archives).
- IndexedDB
- The browser's local database, used as the primary store for projects, contacts, owned gear, and Auto Gear rules.
- ISO
- In a camera context: the sensor's sensitivity setting. (The acronym originally means International Organization for Standardization.)
J
- JSON
- The interchange format used by the app's export, import, and backup flows.
K
- Key Grip
- Head of the grip department — responsible for rigging and camera support.
- Kleinunternehmer
- A small business under § 19 UStG. It charges no VAT on its invoices and reclaims none.
M
- Multi-Camera
- A project with two or more camera packages (A Cam, B Cam, …) each with its own configuration, power summary, and Auto Gear context.
- Multi-Role
- Crew members can hold more than one role on a project (e.g. DP + Camera Operator); one role is the default.
- Mahnung
- A dunning letter for an overdue invoice. Each Mahnung belongs to a stage of your dunning ladder; you can have any number of stages, rename, move and remove them, and each has its own payment term and letter texts. A Mahnung has a number of its own — the invoice number plus -M1, -M2 and so on — and can be withdrawn again.
O
- Offline-First
- The app is designed to work fully without an internet connection; cloud sync is layered on top.
- OPFS
- Origin Private File System — browser file storage used here as a backup tier behind IndexedDB.
P
- PDF Tools
- The more than 80 in-app PDF utilities (split, merge, OCR, signatures, redact, etc.). Distinct from PDF export, which generates new documents from the app's data.
- Post-Production
- Work done after filming — editing, color, sound, finishing.
- Power Connectivity Diagram
- The interactive node graph in the Camera Package tab showing power, video, and data links between camera, monitor, wireless, battery, and FIZ.
- Pre-Production
- The planning phase before filming — scouting, scheduling, gear prep.
- Producer
- The person who manages production logistics and budget.
- Provider
- The source of a gear-list item — Owned, Rental, Sub-Rental, or Crew.
- PWA
- Progressive Web App — installable web application. Cine Power Planner is one.
R
- RAW
- Uncompressed (or lightly compressed) camera sensor data, preserving maximum dynamic range.
- Rental House
- A vendor that rents equipment. Tracked as a Rental House contact and referenced by the Provider field on gear-list rows.
- Resolution
- The pixel dimensions of an image (e.g. 4K, UHD, 1080p).
- Restore
- Recover data from a backup file or auto-backup.
- Reverse-Charge (§13b)
- German VAT mechanism under § 13b UStG where the recipient (not the supplier) accounts for the input VAT — typical for invoices from EU/non-EU SaaS providers like Adobe, Google Cloud, AWS. The Accounting feature encodes this with UStVA-Kennziffern KZ 84 + KZ 67.
- Rechnungskorrektur
- A credit note against a finalised invoice that takes back part of its amount. The open amount of the invoice, and a Mahnung issued for it, are reduced by the credit.
- Re-hash
- In Verify offloads: reading the files on the drives again and comparing their checksums. The default check compares the hash lists only and reads 'matches'; a verification reads 'verified' only when every transfer was also re-hashed.
S
- Shoot Schedule
- Prep, shoot, and wrap day definitions on a project. Drives rental durations and call-time math.
- Smart Action
- An Auto Gear action that matches gear dynamically from the device catalog (e.g. suggestChargers, suggestPowerCables, suggestMonitorCables, suggestFizCables, suggestPowerPlates).
- Sub-Rental
- A rental where the renter sub-rents gear they themselves own. Tracked as transactions on
/subrentalswith check-in/out via the barcode scanner. - Sammelposten
- German tax category for movable assets in the 250–1,000 € range, deductible across five years via a collective pool (§ 6 Abs. 2a EStG). Mapped to Anlage-EÜR Zeile Z32 in the Accounting feature.
- Signed URL
- A short-lived, cryptographically signed link that grants time-limited read access to a file in a private cloud storage bucket. As of v0.222 (CS-17) the app uses signed URLs for every profile, contact, gear and project asset image — see Cloud Sync → 'Your images and attached files'.
- SKR04
- The standard German chart-of-accounts (Standardkontenrahmen 04) for self-employed / freelance businesses. The default 35-row expense category seed in the Accounting feature is keyed to SKR04 account codes ranging from 0440 to 6856.
- Sync
- The cloud-sync engine that pulls and pushes deltas to the Supabase backend.
- Shooting report (Drehbericht)
- The daily report under Data Management → Report: cameras and their cards with clip and photo counts, size and duration read from the cards, crew, sound and daily notes, exported as a PDF. 'Customise fields' chooses which sections and fields a production's report has.
- Storno / Stornorechnung
- The document that cancels a finalised invoice. A finalised invoice cannot be edited or deleted; a Storno reverses it. In the UStVA, the EÜR and the DATEV export the cancelled invoice is counted in its own period and taken back in the period of the Storno.
T
- Template
- A reusable project structure with predefined gear, departments, and metadata. Lives at
/templates. - Timeline
- Per-owned-gear event log (rentals, maintenance, repair, purchase, condition change, damage report, notes) plus the production-level timeline view.
- TOTP / 2FA
- Time-based One-Time Password used as a second factor when account 2FA is enabled.
U
- USt-ID / VAT ID
- Umsatzsteuer-Identifikationsnummer — the European VAT identification number (format: country code + digits, e.g. DE123456789). Mandatory on B2B invoices in the EU. Stored under Settings → Account → Billing & Issuer Details and stamped onto every issued PDF.
- UStVA
- Umsatzsteuervoranmeldung — the monthly or quarterly German VAT pre-declaration to the tax office. Each expense category in the Accounting feature carries a
ustvaKeyfield with the Vorsteuer-Kennziffer (KZ 66 standard, KZ 84+67 § 13b reverse-charge, ornullfor VAT-exempt categories).
V
- Version
- A numeric label (v1, v2, …) on a project, linear and chronological — NOT a git-style branch.
- Verify offloads
- The Data Management check that every card is on every drive. It compares the hash lists on the drives with each other and with the card, names the shooting day of each transfer, warns about recordings the camera never finished, and exports a PDF and a CSV report. See Re-hash.
W
- Workflow Editor
- The visual editor for designing departmental workflows that drive Auto Gear context and crew defaults.
- Walkthroughs
- Interactive step-by-step tours of features, launched from the Guided Tours tab in Help.
Z
- ZUGFeRD / Factur-X
- Hybrid PDF/XML invoice formats used for German B2B e-invoicing. Every invoice you finalise under Accounting → Invoices is a PDF with this data embedded, so the customer's accounting software can read it. The E-invoice inbox reads such files you receive.
