Keyboard Shortcuts
Every shortcut the app actually registers, in one place
Cine Power Planner ships a deliberately small set of shortcuts. This page lists exactly what the app wires up, grouped the same way as the Shortcuts tab in Help (press ? outside a text field to open it): Navigation & Help, Save & Sync, Editing inside a project, the gear-list multi-select keys, and the browser defaults the app leaves alone. If something common in other apps isn't on this list, it isn't bound.
Navigation & Help
Bound app-wide. On a Mac press ⌘, on Windows and Linux Ctrl — the app accepts either key on every platform. The chords with a modifier also work while the cursor sits in a text field, so Cmd/Ctrl + K still opens the Quick Switcher from inside a search box. Only the plain ? waits until you are out of the field and no dialog is open.
- Cmd/Ctrl + K
- Open the Quick Switcher — search projects, gear, contacts, devices, pages and actions, then press Enter. The Search ⌘K button in a page header opens it too.
- Cmd/Ctrl + P
- Also opens the Quick Switcher. It used to open a separate projects palette, which is now part of the Quick Switcher.
- Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + N (⌘ + ⌥ + N)
- Create a new project: opens All Projects with the new-project dialog. Plain Cmd/Ctrl + N belongs to the browser (it opens a new window and never reaches the app), which is why Alt is part of this one.
- Cmd/Ctrl + F
- Inside a project, with the category search on screen, it puts the cursor in the category search. On the Search page it puts the cursor in the search box; in the Device Library, in the library's own search box. Anywhere else it opens the global Search page. It never opens the browser's find bar.
- Cmd/Ctrl + /
- Open the Help home.
- ?
- Just the question mark, no modifier. Jumps straight to Help → Shortcuts, the reference this page describes — unlike Cmd/Ctrl + /, which opens the Help home. It does nothing while you type in a field or while a dialog is open.
- Esc
- Close the active modal, dialog, dropdown, or the Quick Switcher.
- ← / →
- With a tab bar focused (project tabs, sub-tabs, Settings), move to the previous / next tab; the arrows wrap round from the last tab to the first. Home / End jump to the first / last tab.
Tips
- If you only learn one shortcut, make it Cmd/Ctrl + K. It can find almost anything in the app in a few keystrokes.
- Cmd/Ctrl + F depends on where you are — category search in a project, the search box on the Search page and in the Device Library, the Search page everywhere else. All of that is intentional.
- The Help button's menu and the shortcut card in Help → Guided Tours show the most-used shortcuts at a glance; this page and Help → Shortcuts list them all.
Save & Sync
Autosave already runs after every change. This shortcut is the manual flush for when you want to be sure.
- Cmd/Ctrl + S
- Save immediately to this device's database (IndexedDB) and its OPFS backup copy. It works from inside a text field as well, and the browser's Save Page dialog does not open.
Tips
- Cmd/Ctrl + S is rarely necessary in normal use — autosave persists each change on its own.
Editing (inside a project)
Undo and redo cover gear-list and category edits while a project is open. They do nothing on the dashboard or in a read-only (viewer or locked) project, and they step aside while you're typing in a field or a dialog is open, so the browser's own text undo keeps working there.
- Cmd/Ctrl + Z — undo the last change (gear-list or category edits).
- Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Z — redo the last undone change.
- Ctrl + Y — redo, the Windows convention (Cmd + Y does the same on a Mac).
- Cmd/Ctrl + Enter — in the item editor: save your changes. It does nothing until you have changed something.
- While focus is in a text input or textarea, Cmd/Ctrl + Z and redo fall through to the browser's own per-field undo instead.
- The Floor Plan editor (under Shotlist & Schedule) and the Budget Report panel each keep their own separate undo history.
Tips
- Undo/redo do nothing on the dashboard or in a read-only project — open a project you can edit to use them.
- Auto-backups (Settings → Backup & Data) remain the safety net for changes older than the current undo history or made in another session.
Gear list (multi-select)
Active on the Gear List tab. They pause while you are typing in a field or a dialog is open. Selecting with the mouse works through each item's checkbox.
- Click an item's checkbox — select or deselect that item.
- Shift + click a checkbox — select the whole range from the checkbox you clicked before.
- Cmd/Ctrl + A — select every item in the list.
- Cmd/Ctrl + C — copy the selected items.
- Cmd/Ctrl + V — paste: duplicate the copied items in their categories.
- Delete / Backspace — delete the selected items (asks first).
- Esc — clear the current selection.
- Space, ↑ / ↓ — Tab to a category's drag handle, press Space to pick the category up, ↑ / ↓ to move it, and Space to drop it. Esc cancels the move.
Tips
- Combine: tick item 1, Shift + click item 10 for the range, then tick item 15 on its own to add it.
- An item's own drag handle moves the same way: focus it, Space, ↑ / ↓, Space.
- In a read-only project, paste and delete are disabled, but select-all, copy and Esc still work.
Platform notes
Modifier-key conventions on each platform.
- Windows / Linux: Ctrl is the primary modifier.
- macOS: Cmd (⌘) is the primary modifier.
- Every shortcut on this page that uses Cmd/Ctrl accepts either key — so 'Cmd + K' and 'Ctrl + K' do the same thing whichever OS you're on.
- On a Mac, Alt is the ⌥ Option key: Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + N is ⌘ + ⌥ + N there, and it works on every keyboard layout.
- Cmd + Tab and Cmd +
`are macOS-level app/window switchers — they're not part of the app, just useful to know.
Common requests that AREN'T bound
Shortcuts users sometimes assume exist because they're common in other apps. None of these are wired up in Cine Power Planner today. Don't rely on them — use the alternative.
- Cmd/Ctrl + 1..5 — there is no number-key sidebar navigation. Click the sidebar item or use Cmd/Ctrl + K and type the destination.
- Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + N — there is no 'new category' shortcut. Add categories from the gear-list toolbar.
- Cmd/Ctrl + N — taken by the browser for a new window. Use Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + N for a new project.
- Cmd/Ctrl + ↑ / ↓ (with or without Shift) — no chord moves an item or a category. Drag it, or move it from the keyboard with its drag handle: Space, ↑ / ↓, Space.
- Cmd/Ctrl + D — not bound to 'duplicate'. On the Gear List tab, tick the items and press Cmd/Ctrl + C, then Cmd/Ctrl + V.
- Cmd/Ctrl + ',' — does not open Settings. Use the sidebar Settings entry or the Quick Switcher.
- Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + H — does not open Help. Use Cmd/Ctrl + / or ?.
Tips
- If you really miss one of these, send it as a feedback note from Help → Support & Feedback — the list grows when people ask.
- Anything not listed under Navigation & Help, Save & Sync, Editing or Gear list above is not bound app-wide. A few editors (the Floor Plan editor, the moodboard, the Focus Pulling Simulator) bring their own keys and show them where you use them.
How to actually learn the set
The set is intentionally small — you can pick it up in a few days of deliberate use.
- Day 1: every time you need to navigate, press Cmd/Ctrl + K and type. Resist clicking the sidebar.
- Day 2: add Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + N for new projects, plus Cmd/Ctrl + S as a sanity-check save.
- Day 3: add Cmd/Ctrl + F (works contextually), and Esc to close any open dialog.
- Day 4: add Cmd/Ctrl + / (or just '?') for Help, and on the Gear List tab Cmd/Ctrl + A, C and V for bulk copies.
- By the end of week one, these are muscle memory and the mouse mostly stops moving.
Tips
- Print this page if it helps. The set is short enough to fit on a sticky note next to the keyboard.
- Press '?' from anywhere outside a text field to come back to this page when you forget one.
If you find a shortcut documented here that doesn't actually fire, that's a bug — report it from Help → Support & Feedback so the list stays honest.
