Notification Center
Chat messages, sync activity, mentions, invites, and export completions in one inbox
The bell icon in the header opens the Notification Center. It collects collaboration chat messages, comment mentions and replies, pending project invites, sync activity from other devices, and export-completion alerts. Browser-level desktop notifications are a separate, opt-in layer controlled from Settings.
The Bell Icon
Opens the in-app notification list. A red badge on the bell shows the number of unread items.
- The badge shows total unread count across all notification types.
- Click the bell to open the dropdown panel.
- Each entry shows source, timestamp, and a short summary.
- The timestamp says how long ago the entry arrived, in the app's language: 'Just now', '5m ago', '3h ago', '2d ago'. From seven days on it shows the date.
- The tabs under the header filter the list: All, Mentions, Activity, Gear, Invites. When they don't fit on one line, they wrap onto a second row.
- Clicking an entry typically navigates to the related project or surface.
Tips
- The badge resets to read state when you open the panel; entries themselves stay until dismissed or cleared.
- If you don't see the badge update after a remote change, the change probably hasn't synced yet — pull-to-sync or wait for the sync engine.
What Shows Up Here
Common sources include the ones below — these are the everyday collaboration and sync events, not the full list of notification types.
- Chat messages
- New project-chat messages on shared projects you collaborate on.
- Comment mentions and replies
- Mentions by other collaborators in comment threads, plus replies to your own comments.
- Pending project invites
- Someone shared a project with you and the invite is awaiting your accept/decline.
- Sync activity
- Changes pulled from another of your devices or from collaborators — sync engine events.
- Export completions
- Long-running exports (e.g. some PDF jobs) raise an entry when they finish.
- Quotes
- A customer accepted or declined a quote online, or withdrew from it. A sent quote without an answer raises one 'Follow up on quote …' entry when its validity is about to end or it has gone unanswered for the period set under Settings → Accounting → Quote settings → Follow-up. Mute these with Quotes under Notification Preferences.
- Driving Mode reminders
- Gear pickup soon, Gear return soon and Time to leave for set, when the reminders are switched on in Driving Mode.
- Bank connection renewal
- A FinTS bank connection is authorised for about 150 days. Once its renewal is 14 days or less away you get a reminder here, so you can confirm with a fresh TAN before transaction sync stops. One entry per connection per cycle — it refreshes in place instead of stacking. Mute these reminders with Banking under Settings → General → Notifications → Notification Preferences.
- Runtime feedback decisions
- When an admin approves or declines a runtime report you submitted from a project's power summary, you get an entry here. A declined report shows the reviewer's reason, or says the report was not accepted if none was given. These entries name the camera and do not link anywhere; mute them with Approvals under Settings → General → Notifications.
Tips
- Conflict detection during sync surfaces in a separate Conflict Resolver — the bell summarizes activity but does not handle conflict choices.
- A shoot day itself raises no entry. What you get is the Driving Mode reminder to leave for set, and only for a day with a call time. Dates in your own calendar app come from the ICS subscription.
Reading, Dismissing, Clearing
Standard inbox controls on the dropdown panel.
- Click the bell to open the panel.
- Click an entry to mark it read and navigate to the related item.
- Use the per-row dismiss action to remove an individual entry.
- 'Mark all as read' clears the unread badge without removing entries.
- 'Clear all' wipes the history list.
Tips
- Review the panel before using 'Clear all' — a pending project invite cleared from here still needs to be accepted in the project list, but the invite itself does not disappear from the system.
- The panel deduplicates by notification id, so the same event firing twice doesn't produce duplicate rows.
- A recurring sync problem updates one entry instead of adding a new one each time it retries. Standing warnings — sync queue filling up, storage trouble, a queued upload that failed — also wait before repeating. A genuinely different problem still gets its own entry.
Common Pitfalls
- Ignoring a pending invite — it remains pending in the system but the bell can hide stale items if 'Clear all' is used heavily.
- Treating a sync activity entry as a conflict — conflicts always open the Conflict Resolver, the bell only logs the event.
Settings — Browser Notification Toggles
Settings → General → Notifications has three toggles for browser-level desktop notifications, separate from the in-app bell. A per-category Notification Preferences panel in the same section mutes the in-app bell by type.
- 'Enable browser notifications' — master switch; browser prompts for permission the first time it's turned on.
- 'Notify on project changes' — fire a desktop notification when a collaborator changes a shared project.
- 'Notify on sync completion' — fire a desktop notification when a sync run finishes.
- Those three are the only browser-notification switches — there are no quiet hours, sound toggles, or badge-visibility toggles.
- Notification Preferences — a separate panel lower in the same section with a per-category on/off switch for the in-app bell (16 types: chat, mentions, activity, gear requests, quotes, invoices & dunning, banking, insurance, returns, connected crew, approvals, timesheets, shoot day departures, invitations, sync, system), plus an 'Enable all' / 'Disable all' shortcut. Muting a category hides those entries from the bell; it does not affect the three browser toggles above.
- Promotional emails (the 'Go Pro' email, crew invitations to people without an account) end with an Unsubscribe link that works without signing in — open it and press Unsubscribe. For an account it turns off 'Marketing & product emails'; for an address without an account it stops further crew invitations. Every email lists the operator's postal address in its footer.
- Settings → General → Notifications.
- Toggle 'Enable browser notifications' on — the browser prompts for permission the first time.
- Toggle the two per-event switches to taste.
- Changes apply immediately — there is no Save button.
Tips
- If the master toggle is off, the two per-event toggles have no effect.
- Use OS-level Focus / Do Not Disturb for quiet hours — the app doesn't ship its own.
- Push notifications need browser permission. If the browser denied it before, you'll have to re-enable in browser site settings, not just in the app toggle.
When Browser Notifications Don't Arrive
The in-app bell almost always works. Browser-level desktop notifications have more failure modes.
- Confirm 'Enable browser notifications' is on (Settings → General → Notifications).
- Check browser site-settings for the cine-power-planner.com domain — if notifications are blocked there, the app toggle can't override it.
- OS-level Focus / Do Not Disturb suppresses all browser desktop notifications globally.
- Some ad blockers and privacy extensions block the Notification API entirely.
- Private / incognito windows often refuse to register service workers — that breaks push but not the in-app bell.
Common Pitfalls
- Treating a missing desktop notification as a missing in-app event — the bell is the source of truth.
- Forgetting OS Focus modes are in play (macOS Focus, Windows Focus Assist).
- Trying to fix a denied browser permission from the app toggle — browser permission lives outside the app.
The in-app bell is the source of truth — desktop notifications are an opt-in mirror controlled by your browser and OS. If something disappeared from the bell, it was dismissed; if it never appeared in the bell, no event fired.
