About Add Attachments
Embeds arbitrary files inside a PDF as attachments. The attached files travel with the document and can be opened from the attachments panel of any standards-compliant reader.
Embedding happens locally. Worth remembering that an attachment is fully present in the file — anyone with the PDF has the attached data too.
How to use Add Attachments
- Load the host PDF.
- Add the files to embed — any type, any number.
- Give each a description; readers show it in the attachments panel and it is often the only clue to what the file is for.
- Save and download the document with its payload.
On a production
A gear list PDF that carries the original spreadsheet inside it. An insurance schedule with the serial-number CSV embedded. One file to send, and the working data is still there for whoever needs it.
Frequently asked questions
- Will every PDF reader show the attachments?
- Acrobat and most desktop readers will. Browser viewers frequently do not display the attachments panel at all, so tell recipients the files are there rather than assuming they will notice.
- How much can I attach?
- There is no specification limit, but the attachments are stored inside the document, so the PDF grows by the full size of everything embedded. Very large attachments make the document unwieldy to email — the problem you were probably solving.
- Are attachments compressed?
- They are stored with compression where the file type benefits. Already-compressed formats such as ZIP or JPG will not shrink further.
