About Add Watermark

Overlays repeating or single-instance text across every page, with adjustable opacity, rotation, size and colour. The watermark sits above the page content, so it reads clearly without hiding what is underneath.

Watermarking runs locally, which matters when the watermark itself names a recipient — that name never leaves your machine.

How to use Add Watermark

  1. Load the PDF and type the watermark text.
  2. Set the rotation — 45 degrees diagonal is the convention and stays legible across mixed layouts.
  3. Adjust opacity until it is unmistakable but does not fight the content. Around 15 to 25 percent usually lands right.
  4. Apply to all pages and export.

On a production

A budget going to three rental houses for comparison quotes should say which house it went to. A watermark that names the recipient makes the document traceable if it turns up somewhere it should not, which changes how carefully people treat it.

Frequently asked questions

Can the recipient remove the watermark?
Not easily. It is merged into the page content rather than added as a removable annotation layer, so deleting it would mean editing the page graphics. It is a deterrent, not encryption.
Can I use an image or a logo instead of text?
Use Add Stamps for image marks. Watermark is text-only because text scales cleanly to any page size, which a fixed-resolution logo does not.
What opacity should I use?
Low enough to read the text underneath, high enough to survive photocopying. Fifteen to twenty-five percent is the usual window; go higher for documents you expect to be printed and rescanned.
