About Compare PDFs
Compare renders two revisions of the same document page by page, side by side, and measures how many pixels differ on each pair of pages. A third image shows the first revision faded to grey with every spot where the second one differs tinted red.
Both documents are opened, rendered and compared in memory inside your browser, with nothing uploaded. The comparison is gone once the tab closes.
How to use Compare PDFs
- Upload the earlier revision as Document A and the later one as Document B.
- Use the arrows beside the page counter to step through both files; the same page number of A and B is shown side by side.
- Click Compare documents. Each pair of pages is rendered and compared pixel by pixel, and Comparison results lists every page as Identical or with the percentage that differs.
- Click a row in the results to jump to that page and read the Differences image to see where it changed. Tick Show only differences to hide identical pages.
On a production
Script revisions arrive as coloured pages, but the colour tells you only that a page changed, not where. Holding the blue draft against the pink one and seeing the altered lines light up in red turns a page-by-page read into a quick check before the day's sides go out.
Frequently asked questions
- Does it compare the text?
- No. It compares the rendered page image, not the text behind it, so a changed word, a shifted paragraph and a new margin all show up the same way — as red pixels. It does not list which words were inserted or removed.
- What happens when the new revision adds a page?
- Pages are paired strictly by number, page 5 with page 5. An inserted page shifts everything after it, so every later page reads as different. Pages beyond the shorter document are marked Only in document A or Only in document B.
- Can I save the comparison as a file?
- No. The pages, the Differences image and the results list are shown on screen only; the tool does not produce a download. Take a screenshot of the Differences image if you need to pass a finding on.
