About Extract Attachments

Finds files embedded inside a PDF and extracts them. Lists what is present with names and sizes before you commit, so you can see what a document is carrying.

Extraction is performed in the browser and the recovered files are written straight to your download folder, never through a server.

How to use Extract Attachments

  1. Load the PDF.
  2. Review the list of embedded files — many documents carry attachments nobody knew about.
  3. Select what to extract, or take everything.
  4. Download. Multiple files arrive as a ZIP.

On a production

Electronic invoices in the ZUGFeRD and Factur-X standards are ordinary-looking PDFs with a structured XML invoice embedded inside. Extracting that XML is how the invoice gets into accounting software without anyone retyping it.

Frequently asked questions

The list is empty — is something wrong?
No, it means the document has no embedded files. That is the normal case; attachments are a rarely used feature outside electronic invoicing and archival formats.
What is the XML inside my supplier's invoice?
Almost certainly a ZUGFeRD or Factur-X record — the same invoice as machine-readable data. Accounting systems read it directly, which removes a manual entry step and the errors that come with it.
Can extracting be dangerous?
Treat embedded files with the same caution as any email attachment. Extraction itself only writes the file to your disk and does not open or execute anything.
