About Form Filler
Form Filler reads the interactive fields already present in a PDF and gives each one the right control — a text box, a checkbox, or a list of allowed values for radio groups, dropdowns and option lists. Values already in the form are loaded, and the finished form can be flattened so the values become permanent page content.
The form is read, rendered and filled inside your browser with pdf-lib and pdf.js, and field values are never sent anywhere. Only the flatten setting is kept in this browser's storage — never a field value.
How to use Form Filler
- Upload a PDF that contains form fields. Each field is listed under Form fields by its internal name with any value it already holds, next to the page itself under The form.
- Click a highlighted box on the page to jump to its control in the list — useful when field names have nothing to do with the printed labels. Use Previous and Next to move between pages.
- Complete the fields; signature and button fields are marked as not fillable. Tick Flatten form after filling if the values must not be editable by the recipient.
- Click Fill form and download the result. Any field that could not be written is named there, and Change settings takes you back to the list with every value still in place.
On a production
An ATA carnet for a camera package abroad is the same twelve fields every trip, with only the dates and the destination changing. Filling it on screen and keeping the filled, unflattened copy means the next journey starts from last journey's document instead of a blank one.
Frequently asked questions
- What does flattening actually do?
- It converts the field values into ordinary page content and removes the interactive fields. The document then looks identical but nobody downstream can alter or clear what you entered. Comments and highlights stay in the file as annotations.
- My PDF has boxes drawn on it but I cannot type in them. Why?
- Drawn rectangles are not form fields. The document needs real fields defined in it, which is what the Form Creator tool adds — this tool only fills fields that already exist.
- Are XFA forms supported?
- No. The tool works with AcroForm fields. A pure XFA form shows no fields; a file that carries both has its AcroForm fields filled and its XFA data removed on save, so check the result before it goes to an authority.
- Can I save my entries for next time?
- Not as a template. Values last only while the tool is open, and only the flatten setting is remembered. Instead, upload the filled, unflattened PDF next time — the values in it are loaded back into the fields.
