About N UP PDF

N-Up places several pages onto one sheet — two, four, six, nine or sixteen per side — scaling each down to fit a grid. The page order is preserved reading left to right, top to bottom, and you control the gap between cells and the outer margin.

The imposition is calculated and rendered in your browser, so the document is never uploaded to a print service to be rearranged.

How to use N UP PDF

  1. Load the PDF you want to condense.
  2. Choose the layout — 2-up for a side-by-side spread, 4-up for a quarter grid, higher counts for contact-sheet density.
  3. Set the spacing between cells and the page margin, then check the live preview.
  4. Export the condensed document.

On a production

Nine call sheets to a page makes a week's schedule readable at a glance on the wall of the production office. Four script pages to a sheet halves what a runner carries. Neither is about saving paper so much as making the document a different, more scannable object.

Frequently asked questions

Will the text still be readable?
At 2-up and 4-up on A4, comfortably. At 9-up and above you are producing a reference sheet rather than something to read at arm's length — useful for finding a page, less useful for working from it.
Can I put pages side by side like a book spread?
Yes, that is 2-up in landscape. Set the layout to 2-up and the output orientation to landscape and you get the facing-page look printers call an imposition.
Does the original page size matter?
Only for the aspect ratio. Mixed-size documents are each scaled to fit their cell, so a mixed A4 and Letter document will show slightly different margins per cell but nothing will be cropped.
