About Remove Annotations
Strips annotation objects — comments, highlights, sticky notes, drawing markup, and link annotations — leaving the underlying page content untouched. What was written on the page stays; what was added on top goes.
Annotations often carry author names and timestamps. The strip runs locally, so those identities are neither uploaded nor retained anywhere.
How to use Remove Annotations
- Load the marked-up document.
- Review the annotation count the tool reports so you know how much is there.
- Strip.
- Download the clean version — and keep the annotated original, since the comments are not recoverable afterwards.
On a production
A document comes back from three departments carrying every one of their comments. Before it is issued as the approved version, the markup has to go, and deleting fifty sticky notes by hand is not a good use of anyone's evening.
Frequently asked questions
- Does this remove text that was typed into the page?
- Only if it was added as an annotation. Text that is part of the page content — including annotations that were previously flattened — is not touched, because at that point it is no longer an annotation.
- Will hyperlinks be removed too?
- Yes, links are annotations under the specification. If you need to keep clickable links, this is the wrong tool for the job — remove the comments manually instead.
- How is this different from flattening?
- Flattening keeps the markup by drawing it permanently into the page. This deletes it. Opposite intentions, so pick according to whether the comments should survive visibly or disappear.
