How to use Remove Blank Pages

1. Load the scanned document.
2. Set the Whiteness Threshold: a page counts as blank when at least that share of its pixels is white. Lowering it catches speckled or shadowed scans; 100% removes only pages that render completely white.
3. Click Remove Blank Pages. Detection and removal happen in one run, with no list to review first; the result line says how many pages were removed and how many remain.
4. Compare that count with what you expected before saving. If it is off, Change settings takes you back to the threshold with the same file — the original is never modified.

On a production

Duplex scanning a single-sided stack produces a blank verso behind every sheet, doubling the page count for no content. Forty pages become eighty, and every one of them prints.

Frequently asked questions

Could it delete a page I need?

Yes. A page carrying only a signature, a page number or a faint pencil note is almost entirely white, and the default of 99% already counts it as blank — one short line of text leaves an A4 page about 99.9% white. Nothing is listed for review before removal, so set 100% for documents like that and check the removed-page count.

What threshold should I use?

For a clean digital export, 100%: its blank pages are pure white, and a page with even a page number on it stays. For scans, start at the default 99% and lower it a step at a time only while genuinely blank pages survive — scanner speckle is what needs the lower value, and each step down also puts pages with a little real content at risk.

Why does a visually blank page not count as blank?

Only near-pure white counts: a pixel is white when its red, green and blue values are all above 250 out of 255. A scan whose paper comes out light grey or cream looks empty but has almost no pixels that bright, so it stays at every threshold, even 80%. White content works the other way — white text or an all-white image adds nothing visible, and the page counts as blank.

Is a removed page gone even if it held invisible text?

Yes. A page can render blank and still carry text, such as white type on the white page. Nothing of a removed page is written to the output: the new file is built only from the pages that stay, together with their links, bookmarks and form fields.
