About Rotate Custom
Rotates pages by an arbitrary angle rather than a right angle. The page content is re-rendered at the chosen angle and the page box is enlarged so nothing is clipped at the corners.
Re-rendering happens on your machine using the browser's PDF engine, so scanned documents stay local throughout.
How to use Rotate Custom
- Load the skewed document.
- Enter the correction angle, positive or negative. Small documents usually need under five degrees.
- Check the preview against a straight edge in the page, such as a table rule or the text baseline.
- Apply and download.
On a production
A document photographed on a table is never quite square. Two or three degrees of correction is the difference between a scan that looks careless and one that looks deliberate — and it makes the text far easier for OCR to read later.
Frequently asked questions
- Why is the output page larger than the input?
- Rotating a rectangle by a non-right angle needs a bigger box to contain the corners. The page grows to fit; crop afterwards if you need the original dimensions back.
- Is this lossless like a 90-degree rotation?
- No. Right-angle rotation swaps the page box and touches nothing else, whereas an arbitrary angle re-renders the content. Use Rotate PDF for quarter turns and keep this for correction.
- Can it detect the skew automatically?
- Not currently — you enter the angle. Judge it from a horizontal feature in the page and adjust in half-degree steps; two passes usually gets it right.
