About Rotate PDF
Rotate turns pages by 90, 180 or 270 degrees, either across the whole document or on a selection you pick from the thumbnail grid. The rotation is written into the page dictionary, so it is permanent rather than a viewer preference that resets on the next open.
Rotation is a metadata-level edit performed in the browser. The page content streams are copied through untouched, so the document you download is byte-for-byte the original apart from the rotation entries.
How to use Rotate PDF
- Load the PDF and look at the page thumbnails.
- Select the pages to turn, or leave everything selected to rotate the whole document.
- Choose 90° clockwise, 90° anticlockwise or 180°. The thumbnails update so you can confirm before exporting.
- Download the corrected file.
On a production
Phone photographs of a whiteboard schedule, scans fed into the copier the wrong way round, a lens chart shot in portrait — these arrive sideways and stay sideways for everyone downstream until somebody fixes the file itself.
Frequently asked questions
- Why does my PDF look upright here but sideways in another reader?
- Some readers apply a rotation hint without writing it to the file. This tool writes the value into the page itself, which is why the fix travels with the document to any reader and any printer.
- Can I rotate pages by an angle other than a right angle?
- Use Rotate Custom for arbitrary angles. Right angles are separated out because they are lossless — the page box is simply swapped — whereas an arbitrary angle has to re-render the page content.
- Does rotating change the file size?
- Barely. A right-angle rotation edits a single numeric entry per page and rewrites nothing else, so the output is within a few bytes of the input.
