About Split PDF
Split takes one PDF and cuts it into several, either at page ranges you specify or into one file per page. The original is left untouched — the tool writes new documents and leaves the source on your disk exactly as it was.
Both the source document and every output stay on your machine. The ZIP is assembled in the browser, so nothing is transmitted even when you split a document into fifty files.
How to use Split PDF
- Load the PDF you want to divide.
- Choose a split mode — fixed ranges such as 1-4, 5-9, every N pages, or one file per page.
- Preview the resulting file list before committing; the tool shows how many documents you will get and which pages land in each.
- Split and download. Multiple outputs are delivered as a ZIP archive.
On a production
Insurance schedules and rental agreements often arrive as one long PDF covering the whole shoot. Splitting the pages that concern a single unit, or a single piece of kit, gives you something you can forward without exposing the rest of the production's commercial terms.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I extract non-contiguous pages into one file?
- For scattered pages — say 2, 7 and 11 into a single document — use Extract Pages instead. Split is built around contiguous ranges; Extract is built around arbitrary selections.
- Do the split files keep the original's metadata?
- Title, author and subject are copied to each output so the provenance survives. If you are splitting a document to send onward, run Remove Metadata on the pieces first.
- What happens to bookmarks that point outside a range?
- Bookmarks whose target page falls outside a given output file are dropped from that file, because a bookmark to a page that no longer exists makes the document invalid in strict readers.
