Logs, notes, exported lists and equipment inventories often exist only as .txt. A text file is unpaginated and prints unpredictably; a PDF has page boundaries, margins and a page count you can refer to in an email.
Frequently asked questions
- Will my column alignment survive?
- Only in a monospaced font. Text aligned with spaces relies on every character having the same width, which a proportional typeface breaks immediately. Choose monospace for any tabular content.
- How are very long lines handled?
- They wrap at the page margin. If the content is genuinely wide — a wide log format, for instance — use landscape orientation and a smaller size rather than accepting the wrap.
- What about non-English characters?
- Accented characters and umlauts render correctly. Files in older regional encodings rather than UTF-8 may show substitutions; re-save the source as UTF-8 if you see unexpected symbols.
