About XPS to PDF
XPS to PDF converts Microsoft's XML Paper Specification documents (.xps and .oxps) into PDF. Both are fixed-layout page formats, so each XPS page is redrawn as one PDF page with its vector artwork kept as vectors and its text kept as text.
The XPS package is unpacked and redrawn on your device. No conversion server is involved at any point, and the tool fetches nothing from the network.
How to use XPS to PDF
- Add an .xps or .oxps file.
- Click Convert to PDF. Each page is redrawn directly, without turning it into a picture first.
- Check pages with tightly set text, gradients or clipped artwork at high zoom.
- Save the PDF. It keeps the file name, with a .pdf extension.
On a production
An older Windows print workflow at a hire company still emits XPS, and almost nothing outside Windows opens it. Converting on receipt means the document joins the rest of the job's paperwork instead of sitting in an inbox waiting for someone with the right machine.
Frequently asked questions
- Does converting turn vector artwork into pixels?
- No. Lines, shapes and type stay resolution-independent and remain sharp at any zoom or print size. Only pictures that were already bitmaps inside the XPS stay bitmaps.
- Does the text look exactly like the original?
- Not always. Text is placed at its original position and size but set in the app's built-in font, not in the fonts embedded in the XPS, so letter spacing and line lengths can differ slightly. Gradients are drawn in their first colour, and clipping is not applied.
- Can I convert OpenXPS (.oxps) files?
- Yes. The upload field takes both .xps and .oxps, and both go through the same converter: OpenXPS is the standardised form of the same page format.
